Launched during the 2020 lockdown by semi-finalist of Bake Off: The Professionals Adam Cleal and his mother Samantha, Niche Patisserie is a family-run business that has brought high-end artisan baking and luxury experiences to the heart of the town. What began as a home-baking venture delivering fresh bread and croissants to neighbours quickly captured the region’s attention, leading to the transformation of one of the town’s most iconic heritage assets.

In September 2021, Niche officially opened its doors inside The Black Gate—a stunning, timber-framed 17th-century building that had stood empty for over three years. Today, the carefully restored “chocolate box” building serves as the perfect backdrop for Adam’s world-class pastry creations and Samantha’s warm, front-of-house hospitality. Visitors can enjoy freshly baked viennoiserie delicacies, an exceptional brunch menu, or their signature luxury afternoon tea experience. Beyond the tearoom, Niche offers local delivery, bespoke catering for weddings and private dining, and regular hands-on workshops covering everything from breadmaking to chocolate work.

We came here all the way from Wolverhampton, and the drive was absolutely worth it. Niche Patisserie Bakery has a warm and welcoming ambience that makes you want to stay a little longer. The croissants were perfectly done, flaky, fresh, and full of flavour—and the hot chocolate was comforting. A wonderful spot. Highly recommended.

Wow!! What an absolute delight! Our Afternoon tea was just incredible. The flavours were so well put together. The setting is beautiful and the service impeccable. We had a chat to the owners and the pastry chef who are so welcoming, friendly and so enthusiastic in the whole process of their business, from sourcing their ingredients to their final product.
