The Co-operative Bank Customer Donation Fund Guide

Co-operative Bank Customer Donation Fund

Finding the right financial support for community-driven initiatives can make all the difference when turning local projects into reality. For community organisations, social enterprises, and charities looking for non-repayable funding, the Co-operative Bank Customer Donation Fund offers a valuable opportunity to boost projects that make a genuine difference.

Here is a full breakdown of what the fund offers, who can benefit, and how to submit an application for the current round.

What Is the Customer Donation Fund?

The Customer Donation Fund is a dedicated grant scheme run by The Co-operative Bank. Built on co-operative values, the fund awards grants of up to £1,000 to support special projects, community initiatives, and fundraising activities.

To date, the fund has donated over £1.2 million to more than 1,300 local projects across the UK—ranging from mental health programmes and youth clubs to conservation efforts and multi-sensory community spaces.

What Can the Funding Be Used For?

Grants are designed to help local initiatives grow, deliver new services, or sustain valuable community work. Funding can be used for a wide variety of project costs, including:

  • Equipment, tools, and project materials

  • Community events, workshops, and educational sessions

  • Venue hire or operational costs for special projects

  • Capacity building for local volunteers and support networks

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

To qualify for a grant from the Customer Donation Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Account Holder Status: You must hold a Charity and Community Bank Account with The Co-operative Bank.

  2. Eligible Organisation Types: The account is open to registered charities, co-operatives, credit unions, community interest companies (CICs), and unregistered voluntary or community groups.

  3. Community Focus: The project must directly benefit local communities and align with positive social or environmental outcomes.

(Note: If your group does not yet hold a Charity and Community Bank Account with the bank, you will need to set one up prior to applying).

Key Deadlines & Selection Process

Applications are accepted all year round and processed in two distinct bi-annual windows. Completing an application enters your organisation into a draw where successful applicants are chosen at random to receive funding:

  • Spring Window: Applications submitted between 1 October and 31 March are entered into the April draw.

  • Autumn Window: Applications submitted between 1 April and 30 September are entered into the October draw.

Organisations are permitted to submit one application per round.

How to Apply

Applying for the fund is straightforward and handled directly through the bank’s digital portal:

  1. Gather Details: Have your Co-operative Bank Charity and Community account details ready, alongside a clear summary of your project, its budget, and who it will support.

  2. Complete the Online Form: Visit The Co-operative Bank Customer Donation Fund page and access the online application form.

  3. Submit Ahead of the Cut-Off: Ensure your submission is completed before the end of the current window to be included in the next draw.
