Grants of Up to £5,000 Available for Local Homelessness Charities

Local charities in and around Oswestry doing vital work to support individuals experiencing homelessness have an opportunity to secure capital funding through national charity Help the Homeless.

With small community organisations often feeling the squeeze, these grants, offering up to £5,000, are designed to help small-scale charities complete essential capital projects that make a direct difference on the ground.

What Is on Offer?

Help the Homeless provides one-off grants up to £5,000 for capital projects only. This means funding is aimed at physical equipment, building improvements, or tangible items that help charities deliver their services, rather than running costs, staff salaries, or everyday overheads.

Who Is Eligible?

To apply, your organisation must meet the following criteria:

  • Registered Charity: Must be registered with the Charity Commission (England, Wales, or Northern Ireland) or the OSCR in Scotland.

  • Turnover Cap: Open exclusively to small charities with an annual turnover of under £500,000.

  • Target Focus: Your charity’s core work must be wholly or mostly focused on supporting homeless people. (General community groups, food banks, or wider support services that do not primarily focus on homelessness are not eligible.)

  • Project Type: Capital expenditure only. Note: Requests for computers and IT equipment are not accepted.

  • Funding History: There must be at least a two-year gap between receiving a grant or decision from Help the Homeless before reapplying.

Key Application Deadlines

Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis. The upcoming annual deadlines are:

  • 20th March (by 5pm)

  • 20th June (by 5pm)

  • 20th September (by 5pm)

  • 20th December (by 5pm)

Trustees make their decisions within eight weeks of each closing date, so you can plan your project timelines accordingly.

How to Apply

All applications must be submitted via their official online form, postal and email submissions are no longer accepted.

If you are a local homeless support group or registered charity based in the Oswestry area looking to fund a physical project, review the full criteria and complete your application directly on the Help the Homeless Grant Application Page.
