From Pop-up Seed to Community Hub: How Oswestry's Newest Gaming Venue was Born from High Street Demand
How Oswestry's Newest Gaming Venue was Born from High Street Demand
When local entrepreneurs set out to open World of Collectables on Willow Street, they expected to sell games, tabletop figures, and collectibles. What they didn’t expect was the overwhelming feedback from local residents asking a simple question: “Are you going to have tables inside to play?”
Listening to the local community, the team behind World of Collectables quickly realised that Oswestry was hungry for a dedicated, welcoming space where people could gather, build, paint, and play together. While the original shop on Willow Street couldn’t accommodate gaming tables, the seed of an idea was planted.
After exploring local venue options, the opportunity arose to take on 31A Bailey Street. Despite initial hurdles, and explaining the concept of Dungeons & Dragons to a somewhat bewildered estate agent, the team took the leap. Faced with a massive building needing extensive renovation, they called upon local talent and close friend Chris, whose carpentry skills had previously helped fit out World of Collectables.
What began as a call for renovation help soon evolved into a full business partnership with Wayne, Hannah and Chris as business owners, and Tash joining to help. Following weeks of hard work and late nights, opening World of Collectables on 28th August and starting work on the new space the very next day, The Dice Citadel was officially born.
Featuring a dedicated, custom-built D&D room alongside extensive space for tabletop gaming and hobbyists, The Dice Citadel offers a dedicated haven for gamers, painters, and collectors of all experience levels.
“The hobby community is fantastic, and our main goal was to create a space where people with shared interests can meet, hang out, and build friendships,” said the team behind The Dice Citadel. “Seeing people come together and enjoy their hobbies here is deeply rewarding, and we’re excited to see this community continue to grow.“
