Shropshire Business Energy Grants: What is the Status of the BEAS Scheme?
For small and medium-sized businesses looking to control volatile utility bills, grant funding for eco-upgrades is always a major talking point. One of the most significant initiatives recently discussed across the region is the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS), which promised free energy audits and substantial match-funded capital grants for sustainable improvements.
However, navigating public funding can often feel like chasing a moving target. If you have been planning to apply for this specific scheme to fund solar PV, commercial refrigeration, or heating upgrades, there is an important update you need to know regarding its current availability.
Is the BEAS Grant Scheme Still Open?
In short: The active funding round for the Business Energy Advice Service has closed to new applications.
The main Business Growth West Midlands portal officially stopped accepting regular registrations for this iteration of the scheme on 16th March. While information about the substantial £20,000 match-funded grants is still circulating online, the initial live funding pool has been fully allocated.
What Should Shropshire Businesses Do Next?
While the immediate cash injection from this specific phase is off the table, it is not an absolute dead end for local enterprises. There are two clear steps businesses can take right now to protect their interests:
1. Register an Expression of Interest for Future Phases
The managing authorities are actively logging interest from eligible commercial entities to gauge demand for future iterations of the scheme. If new government funding is released or existing pots are redistributed, businesses already on the shortlist will be first in line.
To be considered for future support, you must be a commercial entity responsible for your premises’ energy bills for at least 12 months. You can submit an expression of interest directly through the Business Growth West Midlands portal.
2. Consult the Local Authority for Alternative Regional Pots
Because funding is frequently managed at a local level, Shropshire Council and regional enterprise hubs often have access to smaller, independent pots of capital or subsidised consultancy that do not always get mainstream publicity.
Before committing to major capital expenditures on high-efficiency LED lighting, insulation, or smart building sensors, it is highly recommended to reach out to local business support teams to see what transitional or micro-business funding might be running quietly in the background.
