A flourishing high street relies on independent businesses supporting each other. A recent project at one of Oswestry’s staple independent businesses, Covent Garden Fruit Market, highlights how local collaboration can elevate the look and safety of our town’s shopfronts.

Restoring a High Street Favourite

Covent Garden Fruit Market is a well-known name to anyone shopping in Oswestry. However, their existing shopfront awning had reached the end of its working life and failed, requiring temporary straps to secure it for public safety.

Local shading specialists Soller Awnings Ltd, based nearby in St Martins, stepped in to help. After surveying the frontage, David and his team removed the old unit and fitted two new manual cassette awnings.

The main objectives were to:

Ensure public safety by removing the failing structure.
Improve visual appeal with a modern, clean design that preserves the shop’s original charm.
Provide practical shelter for outdoor fruit and vegetable displays.

The project began with a simple, friendly interaction. David noticed the original awning while passing by and popped in to leave a business card while buying fresh produce from owners Richard and Dawn. That initial chat led directly to a transformed storefront.
