Viral UK Baker Brings Macro-Counted Protein Bakes & Treats to Oswestry Indoor Market
From Lockdown Passion Project to Market Anchor: Bake Baby & Buff Bowls Opens at Oswestry Indoor Market
When local mother-of-two Abi first picked up her baking tins six years ago to beat lockdown boredom, she never imagined it would mark the start of one of the town’s most dynamic culinary journeys. Now, after years of building a dedicated following, she is taking a major step forward by opening her first permanent unit at the Oswestry Indoor Market on Saturday, 15th August at 9:00am.
The launch of Bake Baby & Buff Bowls represents more than just a personal milestone; it highlights the strength and ambition within the local enterprise community. What started as casual Facebook posts of home-baked treats quickly turned into an eager customer base demanding more. However, scaling a solo venture alongside parenting brought real challenges.
For years, Abi balanced late-night baking sessions with an exhausting travel schedule, taking her outdoor stall across Wales, London, and beyond. While successful, the constant road travel took its toll. Earlier this year, seeking a better balance for her family, Abi began looking at traditional employment options, until a rare opportunity appeared online.
A unit had opened up inside the Oswestry Indoor Market. Permanent spots in the market are highly sought after, offering a stable foothold for growing businesses. Securing the space allowed Abi to trade grueling travel for a permanent, central location right where her journey began.
Innovation Meets Health on the High Street
Alongside her signature celebration cakes, Abi is introducing a fresh concept to the local food scene: macro-counted, high-protein, and low-fat meals designed for health-conscious consumers and gym-goers.
Recognising a gap in the market for quick, nutritious food, she launched her “Buff Bakes” line in January. Crafting macro-balanced protein treats is notoriously difficult due to the complex food science involved, making Abi one of only a small handful of bakers in the UK producing them.
Visitors to the new stall can look forward to town-first offerings, including custom macro-balanced meal bowls, sweet potato jackets, viral high-protein cookies, and cake slices, alongside traditional treats and hot and cold beverages.
A Welcome Addition to the Local Economy
Abi’s decision to anchor her business indoors reflects a growing confidence in local trading hubs. Rather than viewing neighboring vendors as competition, she plans to actively collaborate with stallholders offering complementary products and event supplies, creating a stronger overall destination for shoppers.
For Oswestry, the addition of a unique, forward-thinking food concept adds extra vibrancy to the indoor market, encouraging footfall and demonstrating how micro-businesses can successfully transition into established high-street traders.
