Works Underway at Oswestry Bus Station to Enhance Town
Work has officially begun on installing modern bus shelters at Oswestry Bus Station, marking the first phase of a broader package of town centre transport and infrastructure enhancements.
The new shelters feature live real-time passenger information displays, giving commuters and visitors clear, up-to-date travel timings. Funded via government investment, the installation forms part of a joined-up push to modernise local public transport facilities.
Comprehensive Upgrades Planned
Following the shelter installation, a range of aesthetic and functional improvements will be carried out across the bus station site. Planned works include:
Real-time digital displays for improved journey planning.
Refreshed signage to help passengers navigate the town easily.
Deep cleaning and repainting to brighten up the station concourse.
New seating and planters to create a cleaner, more welcoming environment.
Strategic Local Partnership
The scheme is being delivered through the Future Oswestry Group, a strategic partnership bringing together Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council, and Oswestry BID (Business Improvement District).
By pooling resources and expertise, the group aims to ensure that major gateways into Oswestry project a positive first impression for visitors, support footfall for local businesses, and provide high-quality facilities for residents.

Rob Wilson, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and regeneration, highlighted Oswestry’s role leading the rollout:
“These are the first of similar shelters being installed across the county this summer, and will be the first visible step in a wider package of improvements in Oswestry…to improve this important gateway to the town.”
Councillor Jonathan Upton, Mayor of Oswestry, welcomed the focus on public transport links:
“As a regular user of the local transport network, I am pleased to see these improvements being implemented. For many reasons we need to improve the infrastructure and I welcome this investment.”
Judy Bourne, Director of Oswestry BID, emphasised the commercial benefits of the investment:

Broader Regional Context
Oswestry is leading the way in this series of transit upgrades, with additional shelter replacements scheduled across Market Drayton, Shrewsbury, Ludlow, and Ellesmere between August and October.
