Local Fundraiser Takes On Extreme Global Ultra-Marathons for Life-Saving Causes

Local Fundraiser Takes On Extreme Global Ultra-Marathons

When it comes to pushing physical and mental boundaries for a good cause, few endurance challenges match the feats undertaken by one inspiring local runner.

Driven by deeply personal experience, her fundraising journey began last year after her son underwent two life-saving heart surgeries at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. To express her gratitude and raise vital funds for the hospital, she conquered two grueling 45km races through the Atlas Mountains.

Not stopping there, she took her mission even further this year, taking on a formidable 230km ultra-marathon through the dense terrain of the Amazon Jungle, an experience she describes as one of the toughest tests of her life.

Now, her focus has expanded to support another urgent cause close to the community’s heart: raising funds and awareness for young Freddy Williams.

Freddy contracted a rare neurological condition that left him fighting for his life. Although he bravely survived, the illness caused severe damage to his spinal cord. He now requires intensive ongoing therapy, specialized equipment, and continuous medical support, much of which must be funded privately by his family.

To help ease this financial strain and secure Freddy’s essential care, a series of new high-energy challenges are underway. Recent efforts include competing in the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon alongside a thrilling thrill-seeking Wing Walk.

The upcoming calendar features even bigger endurance milestones:

  • 17th October: A 54km Trail Run along the rugged Jurassic Coast.

  • Upcoming multi-day challenge: A 250km self-sufficient, 5-day ultra-marathon through the harsh desert terrain of Namibia.

Every step, mile, and challenge taken aims to give Freddy the treatment, ongoing care, and opportunities he needs for his recovery.
