Weston Rhyn Author Launches Powerful New Memoir
Weston Rhyn, Oswestry author, speaker and business owner Vicki Wilson is preparing to launch her new memoir, Disability Is My Strength, on 5 November 2026.
Born with cerebral palsy and a wheelchair user, Vicki has spent her life challenging assumptions about disability and what disabled people can achieve. Now, in her most personal book to date, she is sharing the story behind the person people see today.
Disability Is My Strength follows Vicki’s life from childhood and education through work, relationships, independence, major setbacks, becoming self-employed and building her own business. The 494-page book is not simply a story about disability. It is about determination, resilience, independence and refusing to allow other people’s expectations to dictate what is possible.
Vicki said:
“I wanted to tell my story as it really happened. There are difficult parts, funny parts, achievements, setbacks and plenty of moments where things did not go to plan.“
“I have spent my life being told, directly or indirectly, what I might not be able to do. Over time I realised that many of the experiences that could have held me back have actually helped shape who I am.”
“That is where Disability Is My Strength comes from.“
From Weston Rhyn to Author and Speaker
Vicki lives in Weston Rhyn, Oswestry, where she also runs her business, Vicki Admin Fairy®. Before becoming self-employed, she spent 20 years working for HM Revenue & Customs. In 2021 she launched Vicki Admin Fairy®, providing administrative support to self-employed people and small businesses, and has since developed her work as an author and speaker.
But Disability Is My Strength goes far beyond her business story. The memoir explores Vicki’s childhood, school years, working life, relationships, experiences of disability and the events that have tested her determination.
One of the most significant came in 2018, when Vicki suffered a serious fall and fractured her hip and femur. The accident and recovery became another major chapter in her story.
Throughout the book, one phrase captures the attitude that has followed Vicki through her life: “I know I can… I know I can… I will do it.“
Challenging Assumptions About Disability
Vicki hopes the book will encourage people to think differently about disability and the assumptions that are often made about disabled people.
Vicki said:
“I do not want anyone to read my book and feel sorry for me. That is not what this is about.“
“I want people to see the person, not just the wheelchair.“
“If somebody finishes the book thinking differently about disability, questioning an assumption they have made, or believing a little more strongly in what they themselves can achieve, then the book has done something worthwhile.“
Although Vicki’s story is deeply personal, she believes its themes will resonate with disabled people and their families, employers, business owners and anyone who has ever been told that something might be beyond them.
Book Launch
Disability Is My Strength will officially launch on Thursday 5 November 2026 at Stori Brymbo, Wrexham, with the event starting at 6pm.
The book will be available from 5 November 2026, including through Amazon worldwide and through Vicki’s website.
